Mithra joined City Year, a non-profit focused on educational equity, in 1993 as part of the start-up team for City Year Providence, Rhode Island, the organization’s first expansion location. Mithra led the site as Team Leader, then Program Director, and then moved to City Year Inc. where she created the organization’s first national event and developed City Year’s strategic planning capacity.

Mithra founded City Year New York. She subsequently served as co-Executive Director and then Regional Vice President for City Year Philadelphia, New York, Providence, and Washington, D.C.  Today, As Chief People Officer for City Year, Mithra is responsible for recruiting, engaging, developing, and retaining City Year’s nearly 1,000 staff and 3,000 AmeriCorps members across 29 locations. In this role, she also leads the work to actively promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging across the City Year community to ensure that the organization is equipped to fulfill its promise to the tens of thousands of students it serves.

Mithra cares deeply about the mission of Solid Ground as she believes that safe, affordable housing plays a significant role in a child’s physical, cognitive and emotional development and well-being, which impacts their education through improved attendance, better cognitive and behavioral health, and improved academic achievement.
