When Mary first came to Solid Ground, life felt overwhelming. She was living in a shelter, unsure of what the future held, and worried that her health diagnosis might prevent her from getting the help she needed. On top of that, she had two children at home to care for. The weight of responsibility was immense.
Solid Ground changed everything by providing not only housing but stability, resources, and unwavering support. With her advocate’s help, Mary began to rebuild her life piece by piece. She never imagined going back to school, but Century College was just a short walk away. The proximity gave her the courage to try.
That decision transformed her life. Mary not only completed her associate’s degree but was named Student of the Year in Social Sciences for History. Her Philosophy professor shared what stood out most: “What struck me about Mary was her desire to do whatever she had to do to make it work for her, and for her kids.”
Mary credits Solid Ground with her success: “I’ve really come a long way with all of this support and all this help. I have learned to love and trust and believe in myself.” Mary’s determination didn’t stop with her own success. Her middle daughter, the mother of her grandchildren, will start at Century College in September. The ripple effect of Mary’s hard work and resilience is shaping the future of not only her children but also of her grandchildren.
Today, Mary has stability, confidence, and hope. She has learned to trust, love, and believe in herself again. Solid Ground didn’t just change Mary’s life, it changed the trajectory of her family’s future. Her story proves that with support and determination, anything is possible.
