Maxwell, a single father of three children, ages 9, 3, and 2, reached out to Solid Ground for assistance. He had been approved for an apartment and had paid the application and holding fees himself. He had also just started a full-time job but would not receive his first paycheck until after his scheduled move-in date.
He needed the money for a security deposit right away. At the time, he and his two youngest children were living in their car, while his oldest child was staying with relatives near the child’s school to maintain stability and continuity.
Our prevention team sent him an application to apply for services, and he completed and returned it within hours. Staff worked closely with him and the property manager to gather the necessary documentation and process the request as quickly as possible. While the total balance exceeded Solid Ground’s maximum funding limit, a referral to St. Vincent de Paul resulted in additional assistance that covered the remaining amount.
Working together, we were able to cover the family’s entire move-in costs, allowing them to move into their new home just six days after his initial call for help. Maxwell’s family is safely and stably housed, demonstrating how timely financial assistance can quickly move families from crisis to stability.
